A native of Greenville, Mississippi, Judge Debra M. Giles was introduced to the world of law as a high school student. While participating in a program designed to provide practical after-school work experience, Giles was assigned to the District Attorney’s office. There she was exposed to various facets of the court and law and was encouraged to pursue a career in the field.

Giles, however, had set her sights on becoming a doctor. She successfully pursued several college degrees in medicine and for the next decade immersed herself in biomedical and social science research and education. Then, she was divinely inspired to take the law school admissions test (LSAT). Her life and career took a sharp turn in a new direction that had been long awaiting her arrival. She excelled at law school and returned to the Mississippi Delta where she passionately served as a public defender, in addition to her private practice, for almost ten years. In 2019, Giles was elected to serve as Chancery Court Judge for Mississippi District 9, Sub-District 2.
As an active member of the community, a neighbor and friend, Giles is uniquely equipped to serve the people of the Mississippi Delta. Her innovative ideas, wise and fair personality and years of knowledge and experience appeal to people of all nationalities, financial status, age and creed.
